Sweetie Chauffer

This ice has held over into Wednesday too! Kenny's school was closed again, but I'm back to work as usual. Kenny worries about me driving on the ice so he offered to be my sweet chauffer for the day. He woke up early (on a day he could otherwise sleep in), trooped out in the ice to scrape off his windshield and get the car warmed up for me, and cautiously drove me to work.

What a sweetie!! He also walked me from the car into my office and put down some salt on the sidewalk so no one would slip. I love that boy and his thoughtfulness *grins*.
I usually go home for lunch, but having no vehicle, Kenny picked me up at noon and we went out for lunch! What a treat!! We also stopped by the grocery store to stock up on some essentials just in case this weather doesn't let up for a few more days.

We had a cozy evening at home and I even tried out a new recipe. We're both trying our best to eat a little healthier, so a Broccoli and Chicken Cassarole sounded pretty tasty! I found this one at http://www.cooks.com/

BROCCOLI, CHICKEN, CHEESE CASSEROLE

1 (3 lb.) chicken
1 (1 lb.) broccoli
1 (10 3/4 oz.) can cream of chicken soup
1/2 c. mayonnaise
1/2 tsp. lemon juice
1/2 c. bread crumbs
2 tbsp. butter, melted
1/4 c. (lg.) shredded sharp cheddar cheese

Cook and bone chicken. Cook broccoli. Combine soup, mayonnaise and lemon juice. Arrange broccoli in greased dish. Top with chicken and soup mixture. Combine bread crumbs and butter. Sprinkle on top. Bake at 350 degrees for 20 minutes. Sprinkle cheese on top, cook 5 more minutes. (I like to use a little more cheese and add to soup mixture before baking.)

Yum-o! It was DELICIOUS!

Snow Day!

Woo Hoo! I love a good snow day! ;)
Kenny's school was closed today because of the ice storm that blew in yesterday evening. I was orignially supposed to go to work, but because I have a wonderful boss who's always looking out for me, he let me stay home from work today.
I got SO much done! I don't know why a snow day makes me energetic *grins* but I cleaned the bathroom and kitchen and DEEP cleaned our bedroom, we're talking dusted the fan blades and the baseboard kind of cleaning! I even used wood polish to clean our dressers and nightstand. I feel so accomplished! I smile every time I go in there now :)

Kenny got some more work done on our guest bathroom too, he removed the wood paneling and got the rest of the old tile all removed. He also had to be on duty to check on the pool from time to time. There seemed to be a thin layer of ice that was accumulating (even with the pump on), so he made sure to keep it broken up. I felt sorry for our poor little chlorine ducks *laughs*
Now, don't go thinking that we spent the whole day working... we got in some excellent Mario Cart Wii time *grins* we nearly beat the whole game as a matter of fact!
It's been sleeting/snowing on and off for most of the day, so we'll see what tomorrow brings.
I hope everyone stays warm tonight!

Coincidence!?

I love tales of coincidence, especially because that's one of the things that brought Kenny and I together, we share so many coincidences....
  • We have the same initals... he is KPS I am (was) KSP
  • We're both the second child in our family
  • Both went to "OU" our freshman year then transfered to another college (he went to Ottawa University, I went to The University of Oklahoma)

  • we're both notorious for having a huge glass of water with us at all times
  • both have an underscore _ in our e-mail address
  • both took piano lessons when we were kids
  • Our last names are also gas stations (Schell and Phillips)

  • I could go on and on....
Anyway, about two months ago Dad was helping us with something on Kenny's car and noticed some wear on the tires. He suggested we have them rotated and aligned. Then when we were in Kansas for Thanksgiving Kenny's Dad mentioned the same thing.

Well, being the smart, obedient kid-o's that we are, we took his car into Goodyear to have them take a look at it. They did the rotation just fine (free of charge too!), but said we would have to take it to the dealer to have the wheels aligned (boo....dealers always charge so much!!)

When I told Dad that story he suggested a local place where he's had several wheel alignments done. When I got home from work that evening I mentioned the place to Kenny "I think it's called Dan's Automotive" I told him.

Well, a few weeks passed and I just decided to call "Dan's" to see if they could align the wheels on a '99 Dodge Durango. So at lunch I asked Dad for the phone number. Turns out it's actually called Woody's Break and Alignment (don't know where I got Dan's from!? *grins*) So about 1:30 I called and spoke to the secretary. She didn't think it would be a problem, and asked would I like to make an appointment? I told her I would check with my Husband and maybe call her back.

Fifteen minutes later as I was heading back to work, about 1:45, my cell phone started ringing and it was Kenny.... first thing he asked me, "did you just talk to Woody's Break & Alignment"? Low and behold, he had JUST gotten off the phone with them and they asked him if his wife had just called!? He must have thought they were crazy (Keep in mind, he had NO IDEA I was going to call them ever, let along today at lunch, and NO IDEA what the name of this business was, I told him it was Dan's). Turns out Kenny had googled oklahoma city alignment, and out of over 300 businesses just happened to call Woody's ten minutes after I spoke to them!? How crazy is that!! Such a coincidence! I really think our brains must be linked, stuff like that happens to us all the time and I love it!

Mom's Birthday Party!

What a fun Sunday we had! We all decided to celebrate Mom's birthday on Sunday so we could get together for lunch and presents!

Kenny and I picked up Chilis to go for everybody (it wouldn't be much of a birthday if Mom had to cook for all of us huh?) Whew.... "to-go" food for nine people is quite a task *grins* After about three items the little lady at Chilis was like.. "okay, your total is....", I had to tell her I'm sorry, I have about six more things to order ;) But, in the end she got everything just right! Yay for Chilis!
We had a yummy lunch and then went right on to presents ;) Bryce was quite the helper again. He sure makes life entertaining! It's so fun to experience a little boy, having all sisters I've only ever been around girls. I remember when he was born we were all thinking what are we going to do!? He's SO fun and FULL of energy though!
Mom got some good gifts, an awesome fragrance vase from Julie & Neil (they were with us in spirit all the way from Missouri), some pretty new shirts from Kenny & me, a gift certificate to go to The Omnidome imax theater with Lori, a Manicure AND Pedicure from Bart & Lisa and some BEAUTIFUL new towels from Dad! I think she had fun!
Bryce was so funny, one of her presents had a long white ribbon on it and he was saying "Grandma, I got you a ribbon for you hair!" *laugh* then he just burst out with "Grandma, I LIKE you!!" what a great present ;)

I made Mom a Hawaiian Wedding Cake for her birthday, yum, yum, yum, the frosting is THE BEST, it's mostly coolwhip with pineapple and vanilla pudding, a perfect mix and not too sweet! Bryce helped her blow out the candles, his first experience with trick candles, lol, I think he was tricked....they kept relighting!
I hope Mom had as much fun as I did!!

Happy Birthday Mom!

Today is my UNBELIEVABLE Mom's Birthday!! I love her so much! She is such a great example of a Christian wife, mother and friend, for me to follow. She has given up so much of herself and her time to make sure that her family is taken care of. I love the way I ALWAYS know I can count on her. If I needed anything she would drop what she was doing and come to help me immediately.
Just a few special memories I have with Mom include:
  • Her being my Homeroom mom at school (I KNOW every other class was jealous that we had THE BEST homeroom mom. She'd always bring cookies and cupcakes and fun treats for my Birthday and Christmas. SO special)
  • The way she and Dad made us girls feel important (they NEVER once missed a school play, recital, concert, performance or show that we were a part of! Wow!)
  • So many times when I was a little girl and sick with a stomach virus (which seems like it happend quite a few times) she was the best little nurse I could ask for, bringing me a cool cloth or ice chips or 7up and tending to my every need!
  • Late nights of school assignments, science fair projects and term papers (all the way through college!) *grins*
  • Taking me to go get my drivers license and making sure I didn't fall apart when I failed the first time! (I still can't parallel park, I make Kenny do it)
  • Her cooking the BEST breakfasts you could imagine.....over a camp fire at the lake!
  • All the fun time together planning my wedding!

I could go on forever, but most of all I just remember all the fun times and laughter we've shared my entire life!

I love you Momma!

Seven Month-a-versary!

Today Kenny and I celebrate SEVEN months of marriage, AND our first "month-a-versary" in a WHOLE new year (2009)!

I'm telling you, the months are just coming and going so quickly! I remember thinking that sounded so funny when I was a kid, hearing grown up's say time passed so quickly and me thinking.... no it doesn't, that's just crazy! Back then, an hour and a half car trip seemed like FOR-EV-ER! My sisters and I would have to bring books and crayons, card games, paper and pencil and all sorts of things to entertains us for the ENTIRE hour and a half. Now, being in the car for four hours or more is no big deal! ;) Eeek! I'm getting OLD!

Anyway, every moment I'm with him I love this man more and more. Thank you God for placing Kenny in my life!

I think we are going to get Cracker Barrel (to-go) to celebrate. We are such home bodies, we'd rather snuggle up on the couch then get all dressed up and go out *grins*

I love you Kenny!

One last Christmas

You might think I'd be sick of Christmas by now, but I'm NOT! I love spreading the Christmas celebrations all out and making it last FOREVER *grins* I am SO thankful that Kenny and I were able to spend Christmas with both of our families!

We had "Christmas" on New Years Day with my family. We all met up at Mom and Dad's about 2:00 and went straight to the presents! They seem to be first priority when you've got a little three year old who's super excited about them! lol

My nephew Bryce was Santa's little helper and helped pass out all the gifts (and helped unwrap a few too, lol). It all kind of seems like a whirlwind of gifts and paper and bows and excitement! We all had a great time just being together! My mom made some beautiful aprons, one for each of us girls. They are so lovely, I don't know if I'll be able to stand to get mine dirty :)
One extra special gift of the day was from Bart and Lisa to Bryce...it was a tee-shirt that said "Big Brothers Share Trucks".....WHAT!?!? Big Brothers!?!? EEEEeeee I know I screamed with excitement!! "You're having another Baby!!!" and ran over to scoop them up with hugs! Bryce probably thought I was crazy ;) .... yep, I'm going to be an Aunt again! They're due around the end of August! How EXCITING!After gifts we settled down for a YUMMY dinner and night of game playing and fun! We played a card game that Julie and Neil taught us, and a big game of chickens foot dominoes. I think Neil or Dad won. Somehow those boys always seems to out score us *grins* we girls are going to have to team up next time!

It was just a day of love all around! I really savor every opportunity to spend time with the ones I love!
