Salt Lake City!

Today consisted of mostly driving, but we have fun doing even that. I'll read out loud and we'll listen to Kenny's extensive CD collection and we talk and talk! *smiles*

We left Teton Village about 8:00 in the morning and made pretty great time all the way to Salt Lake City. Boy what a change in scenery that was! I didn't realise Salt Lake City was such a big place! Whew! We went from small peaceful mountain towns to the BIG ole city! Six lane highways, loads of traffic, eeek! I was glad Kenny was driving!

Well we made it just fine to our hotel and it turned out to be a special treat! Homemade cookies at the front desk just waiting for us (yum!), such a pretty lobby with leather couches and an enormous fireplace, then we went up a grand staircase to our beautiful hotel room! I wasn't even expecting this to be anyplace fancy, but it certainly exceeded our expectations! *grins*

We were trying to figure out what to do with our free evening and happened across a place called Tracy Aviary online. It's like a zoo, but just for birds! tripadvisor.com always has the best advice if you're trying to plan a vacation! You should check it out!!

So, we left our hotel and ventured over to the bird zoo *winks* It's nestled within a park, kind of like the zoo at St. Louis, where there is a lake and playground and art museums as well as the aviary.

Once we got inside we got to see all sorts of treats!
They had two bald eagles! Initially you feel sort of bad for a bald eagle confined to a cage, but later we found out that these eagles were really being protected. They have injuries that prevent them from ever flying, so they are able to be here at the aviary. In fact, it is illegal to keep a healthy eagle in captivity!
They also had some beautiful golden eagles. I probably would have mistaken these for some sort of hawk it I didn't have my zoological expert hubby along *winks*
There were loads of ducks and a sweet little family of about eight baby ducklings! Awwww!
Beautiful, exotic peacocks showing off their feathers.
A lake full of Pelicans! This one was definitely the "king" pelican. He was quite a lot bigger than any of the others, pure white, and had this Dr. Frasier Crane (the early years) hair do *laughs*
I enjoyed watching the flamingos frolic around. Look how mad that guy on the left is! You see, the other one in the picture sitting down is his girlfriend and there were about three other boy flamingos trying to score her attention while he was saying ferociously "back off bub"! She's so cute just fluffing her feathers flirtatiously.

We left the aviary just as the sun was starting to set and walked hand in hand around the lake and park area.

Then we headed to one of our favorites places (no matter what state we're in)....Cracker Barrel!
We had a scrumptious dinner then headed back to our hotel to plan the next day of fun!
