Yellowstone day one

Today brought us right into the heart of Yellowstone National Park. We woke up early and drove from Red Lodge towards the park.
This scenic route through Custer State Park actually took us through a snow filled area! Wow, snow in June!?!
Here is a beautiful waterfall Kenny discovered on the way. See our "1" for One Year Anniversary!!
We entered Yellowstone through the Northeast entrance and actually had to wait with anticipation for some road construction vehicles to open the ONE lane road up for us! They're doing some road repairs and have to let traffic take turns going each way on only one lane. Oh well, it was certainly worth the short wait *smiles*
Our first stop along the way was to do a loop hike up and around Trout Lake. You start to feel like the only people in the world when you're out in the wilderness like that. It was so peaceful and serene. We did happen upon a few fisherman up at Trout lake once we arrived at the top.
We were looking all over trying to spot some otters who are supposed to make Trout Lake their home. We didn't see any, but it was fun transversing the trail all the way around the lake.
Eventually a little spring shower broke loose and we had to head back towards the car. We decided to drive over to the Lamar Valley and see if we could see any Bison. Kenny had read in our guidebook that there were supposed to be herds of animals grazing there.
Oh my gracious we were NOT disappointed!! There were hundreds of Bison everywhere you looked, Daddies, Mommies, Babies! It was so amazing!! There were so many we couldn't count them all. We had to put "400+" in our little notebook of wild animals.
Not only were there Bison, but there were Antelope (prong horns) and Deer too!! Prancing all around and eating up the grass (and attention) *smiles* There were a lot of photographers there with HUGE four foot long lenses trying to get amazing shots.
After we soaked up the gloriousness of the Lamar Valley we were ready to take on another hike. We ventured over to the North Rim Trail to see some more waterfalls!
Do you know what we spotted on the way!?!?! A GRIZZLY BEAR!! Woo Hoo!! *grins* head over heels excited about that! We really weren't expecting to see any bears at all, let alone a grizzly!!
That just made our day! We headed North towards our hotel at Bozeman reminiscing about that amazing adventure!
